Paint Correction

The term paint correction is used within the professional car detailing world to describe the process for rejuvenating and restoring paintwork on a vehicle by removing surface imperfections which dulls the overall finish. Imperfections include minor scratches, swirl marks, bird droppings and holograms to name but a few.

Prior to any paint correction being undertaken, the vehicle must be thoroughly washed and decontaminated to remove all dirt and debris from the paintwork. Removing the contaminants ensures a smooth, even surface for preparing for machine polishing.

Paint correction is achieved through machine polishing using a multistage process of different grades of polish or compound to remove imperfections from the clear coated surface of the paint. This process is carried out using rotary, forced rotation or D.A. rotary machine polishers to achieve the best level of correction. During the process, high-powered LED lamps are used to check the condition of the paintwork and ensure that surface scratches and imperfections have been successfully removed. Following paint correction, the panels are wiped over to remove excess oils left behind from the polish and compounds used during the process.

Good paint correction requires a high degree of skill, experience and concentration.
